1. Acceptance

By installing or using an application published by RootText LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the applications.

2. Who may use the applications

Our applications are suitable for general audiences. If you are a minor in your place of residence, you may use them only with the involvement and permission of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf. Purchases require an app-store account, which is governed by that store's own age rules.

3. Your license

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use our applications on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use. You may not resell, redistribute, rent, or sublicense them; copy them except as needed for ordinary use and backup; reverse-engineer or decompile them except where that right cannot be excluded by law; or remove or obscure any notice contained within them.

4. Scripture texts

Our applications use Bible translations that are in the public domain or otherwise free to distribute, and every translation is credited within the application. Scripture belongs to no software company: we claim no rights in the biblical texts themselves. Our own contributions — the software, the puzzle generation, the curated collections, passages and reflections, the artwork, and the interface — remain our property (see section 9).

We take accuracy of the text seriously. If you believe a verse is wrong, please tell us: reports of textual errors are treated with the highest priority.

5. Purchases, subscriptions, trials, refunds

RootText is free to use. An optional paid upgrade, RootText Plus, is offered in three forms: a monthly subscription, an annual subscription, and a one-time lifetime purchase. From time to time we may also offer a founders' or launch price for the lifetime purchase, a free trial or introductory price on a subscription, and offer or promotion codes (section 5A).

5A. Offer and promotion codes

We may issue codes through the stores' own offer or promotion-code systems that grant RootText Plus free or at a reduced price — for example to reviewers, to members of a church or study group, to students and missionaries, or as part of a promotion. A code is a gift or a discount, not a product: codes may not be sold, auctioned, exchanged for money or anything of value, or distributed for a fee, and each code is subject to the redemption limits, eligibility rules and expiry set by the store that issued it. We may cancel codes that were obtained or used contrary to these terms. A code grants the subscription or purchase it names and nothing else; when a discounted first period ends, the subscription renews at the regular price shown unless cancelled.

6. Earned in-app items

The applications include items that are earned through play — such as hints, rewards, streaks, and achievements. These have no monetary value, cannot be bought with or exchanged for money, are not transferable, and exist only within the application on your device. We may adjust how they are earned or spent to keep the game balanced. They are part of the game, not property.

7. Your content and your data

Your progress, verse lists, topics, and settings are yours, and they live on your device — we do not receive them, so we cannot recover them for you. Please use the backup feature in Settings if they matter to you. Deleting the application deletes them. The application sends us anonymous usage statistics that contain nothing that identifies you and never the verses you chose; you can switch them off in Settings → Privacy. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.

8. Acceptable use

Please do not use our applications or this website to break the law, to interfere with their operation or security, to attempt to gain access to systems or data you are not entitled to, or to send abusive or fraudulent messages through our support channels.

9. Intellectual property and feedback

The applications, this website, and everything in them apart from the biblical texts — software, design, artwork, names, logos, curated collections, passages and reflections — are the property of RootText LLC and are protected by copyright and other laws. “RootText” and “RootText: Bible Cryptogram” are names and trademarks of RootText LLC.

If you send us suggestions, ideas, or feedback, you agree we may use them without restriction or obligation to you. (We say this so that acting on a good idea can be simple; it is not a claim on anything else you own.)

10. Updates, availability, changes

We may update an application to fix problems, improve it, or meet platform requirements, and some updates may be required for continued use. We may change or discontinue features, or an application as a whole. We aim to give reasonable notice of significant changes, but we do not guarantee that an application will be available indefinitely or will remain compatible with future devices or operating systems. Because your data lives on your device, discontinuation of an application would not take your data with it.

Some future features — for example syncing between devices, gift or group subscriptions, tournaments, or other online play — will require creating an account, because they cannot work without one. Any terms specific to those features will be presented when they ship, and the core application will remain usable without an account.

Testing programs. If you take part in a beta or other testing program, the build you receive may be unfinished, may change or stop working, and may reset or lose progress; it is provided for testing only and without any warranty beyond these terms. Please do not publish screenshots or descriptions of unreleased features without asking us first.

11. App stores

Your use of an application obtained from Google Play or the Apple App Store is also subject to that store's own terms. The store is not a party to these terms and has no obligations under them, except as its own terms provide. These terms are between you and RootText LLC alone.

For applications obtained from the Apple App Store: Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you; Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the application; and Apple is not responsible for addressing any claim relating to the application, including product-liability claims, claims that the application fails to conform to a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer-protection claims, or claims that it infringes a third party's intellectual-property rights.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

Our applications and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that an application will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, RootText LLC will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use our applications or this website. Our total liability for any claim relating to an application is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for that application in the twelve months before the claim, or US $10. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

14. Termination

You may stop using an application at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your license if you materially breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive — including 9, 12, 13, and 15 — survive termination. Termination of the license does not by itself affect purchases, which remain governed by the store you made them through.

15. Governing law and disputes

Before any formal proceedings, please contact us — almost everything can be resolved by two people talking.

These Terms of Service (“Terms”), and any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating in any way to these Terms, the RootText application, or your relationship with RootText LLC — whether based in contract, tort, statute, fraud, misrepresentation, or any other legal theory — are governed by and shall be construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Wyoming, without regard to any conflict-of-laws rule or principle that would result in the application of the laws of any other jurisdiction. Any action, suit, or proceeding arising out of or relating to these Terms or the RootText application shall be brought and maintained exclusively in the state courts of general jurisdiction sitting in Hamilton County, Indiana, or, where original federal subject-matter jurisdiction exists, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction and venue of those courts — except where applicable law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own place of residence, in which case you keep that right.

16. General provisions

17. Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms. The “Last updated” date above will change, and material revisions will be announced in the application. Continuing to use an application after a revision takes effect means you accept it; if you do not, your remedy is to stop using the application.

Dated copies of previous versions are kept so you can see what these terms said at any point in time: 9 August 2026 · 16 August 2026. This version (28 September 2026) added free trials and introductory prices, Family Sharing, the scope of the lifetime purchase — every Plus feature in this edition, forever, with separately sold editions excluded (5), offer and promotion codes (5A), anonymous usage statistics (7), testing programs (10), the Apple App Store (11), a twelve-month limitation-of-liability window in place of one month (13), and the consumer venue carve-out (15).
